Membership Q&A

I bought my membership in August 2020 and did not know there would be club minimums in the future. Am I required to speed the monthly minimums?

No, it would not be ethical, nor fair to force a member to spend the monthly minimum that bought a membership without knowing about monthly minimums. Once the member renews their membership, then they will have to speed the monthly.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, what if we cannot dine in the restaurant because of Orders from the Governor? How can I spend my monthly minimum if we cannot use the restaurant?

Currently, restaurants are not allowed inside dining but are allowed to have outside dining and takeout services. The club has a great outside seating area, and with the new membership software, it will be very convenient for members to order takeout.

If the State requires us to close the restaurant or the club, you will still be required to spend the monthly minimum. At the end of each quarter, if it is found that you did not spend your quarterly monthly minimum, then you will be charged the balance and a credit will be put on the account that you may use in the future for Food, Beverage, and Guest Golf Fees.

With the vaccines starting to be readily available, we expect most of the state orders to fade away this year.

Here are two member's statements about the monthly minimums "I think the minimum should be $50.00." "I think the monthly minimum is too low, I will spend more than that". How did you come up with the monthly minimum?

We crunched the numbers to see where the break-even point is. During the golf season, we need more staffing to make sure we give our members the service they deserve and expect, and in the winter months, we don't need as much staff, and this is why there is a different minimum during the golf season and non-golf season.

Why don't you just raise the price of membership and not do a monthly minimum?

We could have raised the membership fee, but we feel that members should be able to get value from their dollars. TGC management feels if we were to raise the membership fee to include the monthly minimum, that we have added no value to the member. By requiring the minimums, each member will be able to get something of value for their money. If we had raised the membership to $5000, we believe that it would be hard to swallow such an increase, especially since the member is not getting anything else in return.

I go south in the winter, and won't be able to spend the monthly minimum during the non-golf season.

We do have quite a few snowbirds as members. If a member doesn't spend the monthly minimum by the end of each quarter, then the club will charge the balance of the minimum to the member's credit card on file, and then issue a credit that the member can use when they return to Michigan.

What if I spend $50 in April, $100 in May, and $150 in June, will I be charged $50 because I didn't spend $100 in April?

No. We are only going to charge and credit to members if they have not reached their quarterly requirement. We want to make the minimums as fair and transparent as possible. No one likes having to pay for something if they did not get anything for their money, and this is exactly why we came up with charging a member after each calendar quarter if they have not spent their minimums and then issuing a credit to them for future purchases.

What if I cancel or don't renew my membership and have a credit on my account, will I be refunded the monthly minimums?

No, unfortunately, you will not be refunded the monthly minimums. The monthly minimums fees are used to support the club.

I have special dietary issues, and cannot eat most of what is on the menu. How am I supposed to spend my monthly minimum?

Our Chef Mike can handle special dietary dishes for you. We actually have done this for a couple of members already, and are willing to do it for you as well. Simply let one of our staff members know, and we will accommodate your request. This is a great benefit to members that have special dietary requirements, as most restaurants will not do this.

Can you tell me more about the new membership software?

TGC is currently working on implementing new membership software that will allow members to order food, drinks, and pay golf guest fees online. This software will allow members to see their spending activity and give each member the ability to see how much money they have spent. The software will also have a membership directory, and allow you to book tee times online. This software is going to allow the club to increase our customer service to our members and give them the full private club experience.

Once we launch the software, we will do some online video training so members can understand how to use it, and the benefits of using it. We are really excited about this software.
